Rejection happens to everyone all the time and no one likes it. A particular event of rejection creates and triggers a lot of emotions that leave us feeling very vulnerable. Some people bounce back quickly after experiencing rejection while others seem to take a lot longer to get over extreme sadness, find peace and recover mentally and emotionally.

“Rejection can disappoint you, depress you and may even stop you in your tracks. Learn not to take rejection so personally. If you’re honest with yourself and believe in your work, others will too.”

“• Bev Jozwiak

Deal with rejection in a healthy manner

We naturally want to avoid distressing situations at all costs so it’s just normal for us to protect ourselves after suffering from rejection. We get so traumatised and we tend to let fear and anxiety consume us. But even though it hurts so bad, it’s really important for us to undergo the stages of grief after being rejected to be able to fully deal with it the healthy way.

“Most fears of rejection rest on the desire for approval from other people. Don’t base your self-esteem on their opinions.”

“• Harvey Mackay

What are your core beliefs? Studies show that our beliefs contribute to how we react to painful rejection. To establish core belief system, start by doing regular daily reflection because it helps a lot in shifting to a mindset that focuses more on growth and personality development. Also give yourself positive affirmations everyday as a reminder of your self-worth. This will surely give you enough strength to cope in case you would be rejected again in the future.

“It is necessary to put yourself out for rejection, and accept that you will be rejected.”

“• Robert Genn

You may hear others say to you “Hang in there! It’s not the end of the world.” Although you would think that it’s easier said than done because they don’t have any idea what you’re going through but never let negative feelings get the best of you. Just take all the advice you can get. Always remember that your feelings are only temporary – may it be anger, sadness and self-pity. Have the courage to move forward, knowing that you have learned valuable lessons from this experience.

“A rejection is nothing more than a necessary step in the pursuit of success.”

“• Bo Bennett

“Do not waste yourself in rejection; do not bark against the bad, but chant the beauty of the good.”

“• Ralph Waldo Emerson
