Course Description
CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia.
Educators holding this qualification work to ensure that children are prepared for life by encouraging creativity, self-expression and social development skills such as peer interaction or empathy while also developing practical knowledge.
Educators at this level are also responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations.
Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools and kindergartens.
Study Mode
Self-paced completed online in your own time, at your own pace.
This course is delivered using an asynchronous study methodology, utilising mainly online delivery (eLearning) of learning materials and assessment resources.
We provide our students ongoing support throughout the course duration via telephone, emails and/or virtual online meetings, on request.
Completion of at least 280 hours work placement in an approved early childhood education and care centre which will provide the student with hands on experience under the supervision of a qualified and experienced workplace supervisor.

Course Completion / Qualification Pathways
Students obtaining a ‘Competent’ result for all units of competency will achieve the CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care certificate.
A Statement of Attainment will be issued to students who complete less than the required units for the full qualification.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who hold a:
- CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care OR
- CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
In addition to the above, Australian College has certain admission criteria for this course. Prospective students must:
- be minimum 17 years of age or older at the time of enrolment. Parental consent is required from all students under the age of 18 years
- complete a language, literacy and numeracy test prior to enrolment
- have access to an approved operational early childhood and care environment to complete work placement requirements
- have access to work colleagues or individuals prepared to participate in audio/video roleplays for specific assessment tasks
- obtain their Unique Student Identifier (USI) and provide it to Australian College. Information on how to obtain a USI can be found here.
- agree to comply with Australian College policies and procedures as published on the website and outlined in the Student Handbook.
- pay all fees as outlined in the Enrolment Terms and Conditions.
Students must have access to and be able to operate:
- An internet-enabled PC/Laptop or similar running a current operating system (E.g. Windows 10 or Mac OSX)
- An audio/video recording device (such as a mobile phone) for the purpose of preparing audio/video assessment recordings
- Zoom/Google Meet for the direct observation assessment tasks
- Microsoft Office (or compatible software)
- Current web browser (e.g., Chrome)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader or another PDF document viewer
- Valid email address
Childcare Work Placement requirements:
- Working with Children Check (WWCC) or Blue Card (State Specific)
- Health checks (where required by the childcare centre)

Overseas Students Policy
This course is not available to students on an Overseas Student Visa.
As defined in the ESOS Act 2000, Overseas students are not eligible to apply to enrol in this nationally recognised course, nor are they eligible for certification. Please refer to the Enrolment Terms and Conditions.
DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY
This course is delivered using an asynchronous study methodology, utilising mainly online delivery (eLearning) of training materials supported with emails and phone calls with the trainer and assessor, on request.
Self-paced completed online in your own time, at your own pace. We provide our students ongoing support throughout the course duration via telephone, emails and/or virtual online meetings.
The course also requires completion of at least 280 hours work placement in an approved early childhood education and care centre which will provide the student with hands on experience under the supervision of a qualified and experienced workplace supervisor.

Assessments
To ensure we gather all types of evidence as required by the training package and unit requirements, various assessment methods are being used to assess the student’s competencies.
Following are assessment methods used for this qualification:
- Knowledge/Theory based assessment consisting of questions and answers
- Case Studies – includes analysis of case studies and answering questions
- Projects and Work Placement Projects – depending on the unit, projects may have to be completed in a simulated environment or in a real workplace
- Direct Observations* – conducted by the RTO Assessor virtually (online via Google Meet)
- Supervised workplace practical activities
- Third Party Reports
- Work Placement Portfolio
- Audio/video recordings of practical demonstration such as roleplays, interacting with children, etc.
*Note: Direct Observations will be organised at a time convenient for all parties (ie. Student, Workplace Supervisor and Assessor) and are conducted by the RTO Assessor virtually (online).
WORK PLACEMENT / EXPERIENCE
This qualification requires students to complete a minimum of 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. The total numbers of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirements for workplace hours and practical demonstrations.
*Note: Eligible students are required to complete a Working with Children Check or Blue Card (applicable for their state/territory in which they will be conducting work placement). Any costs for these checks will be paid by the student. Students are advised that the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) recommends immunisation for hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and influenza (as applicable in accordance with local jurisdictions), prior to commencing any work placement. Students to check with their workplace on all or specific requirements for the centre.
