The FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set and FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting dual qualification is a gateway to accounting jobs in management of financial services and related industries. This dual course allows graduates to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to perform roles such as Tax Agents, Tax Agent assistant, Receivable Officers, Payroll Officers, and employees performing a range of accounting tasks for organisations.

Completion of FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set is required first as it is comprised of 6 units that are pre-requisites prior to the commencement of the FNS50217 Diploma qualification. The units of competency in this skill set from the FNS Financial Services Training Package address the needs of individuals who apply knowledge of accounting principles to perform a range of analytical tasks in a variety of industries. According to the Australian Government Job Outlook, accounting and finance roles are expected to grow strongly over the next 5 years as the demand for skilled financial and business advisors grows.

Graduates of this nationally recognised course will be able to proficiently complete complex accounting tasks, coordinate and evaluate their own work, whilst also providing guidance to others. Graduates will also be able to complete skilled duties such as providing financial and business performance information, preparing tax documentation for individuals, managing budgets and forecasts, preparing financial reports for corporate entities, implementing and maintain internal control procedures, providing management accounting information, and more.

**Unit required for the FNSSS00004 BAS Agent Registration Skill Set.
The Tax Agent Services Act 2009 prescribes through the Regulations that to be eligible for registration as a BAS Agent or Tax Agent with the Tax Practitioners Board, that at least 40% of the course must be completed under independent supervision. The strategic alliance that Australian College has in place with the Australian Bookkeepers Network (ABN) and the Australian Bookkeepers Association (ABA) supports our students to achieve this requirement.

Entry requirements

Completion of FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or equivalent; or its superseded versions (FNS40215 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or FNS40615 Certificate IV in Accounting) or their equivalent.

Australian College requires:

  • Competent in spoken and written English
  • Successful completion of an LLN review prior to commencement
  • At least 16 years of age*
  • Access to a PC/laptop or similar, email address, internet
  • Additional reading materials and required textbooks may be used throughout the course
  • Access to an accounting or bookkeeping workplace for workplace training.

*Students under 18 year of age will need to provide parent/guardian consent.

Overseas Students Policy

As defined in the ESOS Act 2000, 'Overseas students' are not eligible to apply to enrol in this nationally recognised course, nor are they eligible for certification. Please refer to the Enrolment Terms and Conditions.
