Welcome to Margaret’s wonderful world of Children’s Writing

Margaret Clark is one of Australia’s most popular and humorous authors for children and teenagers and has published over 100 books since her first novels Pugwall and Pugwall’s Summer were adapted for TV nationally and internationally.

Margaret writes for ages 4-15+, within several genres—adventure, humour, horror to name a few. Her bestselling books for Junior readers are Snap!, A Wee Walk, the ‘Mango Street’ series and the Shorts series (Penguin) and for teenagers/older readers, Fat Chance and Back on Track—Diary of a Street Kid, Secret Girls’ Stuff, More Secret Girls’ Stuff, Care Factor Zero and Web Watchers (Random House).

”I’ve always been interested in reading and writing," Margaret says. “I like all types of children’s writing and have written about relationships, friendships and social issues under the guise of humour."

Margaret was formerly a primary teacher, a pre-school director, and a university lecturer wth Deakin University. She has a Bachelor of Education (Honours), a Master of Education and a Doctorate of Education. Her wide experience as an educator and her work with young people have enabled Margaret to write very popular books for teenagers such as The Big Chocolate Bar, Famous For Five Minutes, Hot or What, Hold My Hand or Else, Living With Leanne, Pulling The Moves and No Fat Chicks. The Chickabees’, is currently being contracted for a TV tie-in.

Margaret’s ‘Hair-Raiser’ series of fifteen horror stories (under the pseudonym Lee Striker) have also been enormously popular, and include the titles Revenge of the Vampire Librarian, Bite Your Head Off and Teacher Torture.

Her very popular adventure series of 21 Aussie Angels feature animals and locales with which Margaret is familiar (the Otway Ranges and Bass Strait) Many of Margaret’s books have been short-listed in all of the children’s choice awards and have won awards in Europe (the White Raven award for Wally the Whiz Kid). Her latest awards are the EARS Award for Hold My Hand or Else and the YARA Award for A Wee Walk. Her books have been published in sixteen different countries.

Margaret is now a full-time writer living in Victoria with her family. Her latest humourous children’s book for Penguin, The Worst Nurse, was published in 2005.

Margaret’s books have become so popular that she now gives talks to groups of children, teenagers and parents. Although amazingly busy, Margaret still likes to keep in touch with fellow teachers and to help others achieve by tutoring students in children’s writing.
