  • maintain a good knowledge of the products/services being sold
  • use store sales procedures and undertake financial transactions
  • use point of sale equipment, electronic equipment and information technology
  • maintain a high level of customer service and make sure that complaints from customers are quickly attended to
  • stay informed about new lines of stock and any changes to the prices of stock
  • participate in or draw up staff rosters
  • set up the layout of merchandise so that stock is presented as attractively as possible
  • set up window displays, shelf displays, bin displays and gondolas
  • monitor stock levels and place orders with the warehouse or suppliers when stocks decrease
  • participate in or undertake stocktakes
  • apply security procedures for stock and cash in the store
  • use ticketing methods to display price of stock and sales merchandise
