Course Overview

Advance your skills and knowledge from level 1 to level 2 with this wonderfully interactive course ...

This course has been developed for people who want to build upon the skills gained in Counselling Skills l—more specifically, to draw those skills together, and expand into telephone counselling and more specific crisis situations.

The Counselling Skills II Course expands your knowledge and skills in counselling and introduces you to telephone counselling and specific problem-solving techniques. Along with your progressive tutor support, the interactive, practical lessons will help you to learn about your own life and help others to manage and explore theirs.

Counselling Skills II looks at how the use of the different micro-skills covered in Counselling Skills l can be integrated into the counselling process. Through a series of step-by-step lessons, we look at how it is possible to combine skills to both facilitate and improve the likelihood of change. Obviously no two situations will ever be the same, but certain patterns will emerge.

This fabulous eight part course plus textbook and telephone counselling practice session has been developed by a professional counsellor to build upon the foundation counselling skills gained in level 1.

Through your course you will learn:

  • about the different stages in counselling
  • how to apply feedback through the counselling session
  • about the difference between transference and counter-transference
  • how to conduct a telephone counselling session
  • about telephone counselling techniques (and participate in a telephone counselling role play with your tutor)
  • about crisis counselling and the different responses: agression and violence, anger, chronic depression, grief and suicide.
  • how to evaluate differenc risk situations
  • apply problem-solving techniques in counselling.

"I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, to be compassionate.
It is, after all, to matter: to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all."

—Leo C. Rosten
