include: Private nanny placements, au pair (domestic or international),
child care centres*, corporate child care, community services, government.
Childcare
workers look after the social, emotional, physical and educational
needs of infants and young children in a variety of home or out-of-home
care settings. A nanny or childcare worker may:
- plan
out and implement developmental activites based on observation
of children
- monitor
children's growth, behaviour and development
- liaise
with parents about their children
- prepare
games and learning materials, and provide a creative environment
- guide
children's behaviour and social development, individually and
in groups
supervise children's play, monitoring their physical safety
- help
children with daily routines and instruct them on things like
dressing, eating and sleeping
- prepare
light snacks and meals
- maintain
a safe and clean environment
- undertake
basic first aid in emergencies.
*When
used to describe employment, such as 'childcare worker', 'childcare
assistant' the word childcare is spelt as one word. When
used to describe the environment a childcare worker works in or
where children are cared for, such as 'child care centre' or 'child
care services' then child care is spelt as two words.
New Child Care Regulations
New government regulations stipulate that by 2014 all child care
workers will require at least a Certificate III qualification.

Skills.
Employability
Skills are defined as skills required not only to gain employment,
but also to progress within an enterprise so as to achieve one's
potential and contribute successfully to enterprise strategic directions.
There
are eight Employability Skills: communication, teamwork, problem
solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organising, self-management,
learning, and technology.
